Twin Cities, Minnesota Blog
NOTE: This is an archive of a blog that was originally published at TwinCitiesMinnesotaBlog.com.
On August 10, 2004, I started this blog using Blogger so I could learn about and experiment with the medium.
I've accomplished that goal but I continue to experiment, which might explain the sometimes random nature of this blog. While I publish other blogs on Internet Marketing and the Minnesota Vikings, this one is far less focused and sometimes scatter shot.
I do talk a lot about sports because sports are always fun to talk about. I talk about various places in the Twin Cities because the Twin Cities are a wonderful place to live. I talk about video games because they're very cool, as entertainment as well as technology. I talk about politics because I'm a news and politics junkie.
And I'll pretty much talk about whatever makes it into my head, through my fingers, and past the post button.
I write because it helps me to think; the process helps me clarify my ideas by putting those ideas into words that I can see and examine. I write because I love writing and I'm good at it and there's nothing quite as wonderful as exercising a skill at which you excel.

Three On Threes
Touch football’s my game. Tackle is the new guys’ game and taking away that aspect of the game is a major disadvantage, if that’s the way you’re used to playing. There’s no jarring the ball loose with a huge hit after the receiver has made the reception. There’s no wearing your smaller opponent down play after play with relentless hits.
Touch Football
Every Saturday, year-round, rain, slush, snow, or shine, for about three years now, I’ve been playing a pickup game of touch football with a core group of guys at a park in Northeast Minneapolis. We play one to three, sometimes four games, for two to sometimes four hours, depending on the weather and the number…

The Problem With HUDs
Heads Up Displays (HUDs) are inhibiting the realism of video games.
“Is it a curse that I love football so much?”
That quotation is from K.C. Joyner, a man who’s passion for the game is so great that he’s written a 467-page painfully detailed statistical analysis of the game entitled Scientific Football 2005. I could have said it. But I didn’t. So I’m stealing it. I first read that quote in June, buried at the bottom…
Madden 2006 Is Out
The media blitz has begun. Actually, it began quite some time ago but it has stepped up now that Madden NFL 06 is in stores. I unfolded my Star Tribune this morning and saw on the top banner of the front page a Madden-generated Ken Irvin (why Ken Irvin, I don’t know) next to a…
