Today’s the day for scouting opponents. Here’s the lineup:
- Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears at noon on Fox TV.
- Will the Lions finally prove everyone wrong and win some games?

The Vikings & Saints solidarity salute before the game was like, whatever. It’s hard to get all worked up about a squabble between millionaires.
Except when it eliminates my damn football season, that is.

Speaking of politics, we now know that quarterback Brett Favre is a Democrat. The AP reports that Favre and his wife gave $2400 each to to the campaign of Democratic U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor, who is facing re-election in Favre’s home district against Republican Steven Palazzo and the Reform Party’s Anna Jewel Revies
SO THAT’S WHY
The Star Tribune‘s Judd Zulgad and Chip Scoggins, in a story about Husain Abdullah winning the strong safety job, quote coach Brad Childress saying “Sometimes it’s not pretty in that last line of defense, but all you are talking about is usually finding angles and getting somebody down.”
So that’s why the Vikings safeties had one interception last year. They’re not required to.

I’m pretty sure Favre is perfectly capable of defending his honor…if it needs defending.

The share NBC got for the Vikings/Saints matchup on Thursday, the highest-rated prime-time regular season game since 1997.
Begs the question: Were those Favre-driven ratings, and if so, doesn’t the NFL have a fiduciary responsibility to protect Brett Favre from the nasty New Orleans of the world?
The answer is obvious.
ON DEMAND
Comcast is playing an NFL Network feature of the 2010 Hall of Fame inductees, which, of course, include Vikings defensive tackle, John Randle. They are also replaying a 10 minute version of the Vikings loss to the Saints last week.
