Break Glass In Case Of Emergency

The Vikings clearly didn’t get the medical reports back they were hoping for because they have placed The Crossed One, wide receiver Chad Beebe, on Injured Reserve.

The team brought back wide receiver Laquon Treadwell to replace him. Treadwell generated no interest from 31 other teams since he was cut prior to the start of the season.

This is clearly a Break Glass In Case Of Emergency situation with a need for depth at the already-depleted wide receiving unit. Considering our experience with Treadwell, I would expect him to be behind Bisi Johnson on the depth chart and on the field for any pass plays.

I would think the only snaps Treadwell will see is as a gunner on the kick return units and as a blocker on rushing plays. Unless, of course, Johnson gets injured, too.

In brighter news, the team has also re-signed Marcus Sherels to replace Beebe as a punt returner (and presumably provide an upgrade over Nate Meadors at cornerback).

Sherels signed with the Saints after getting cut by the Vikings but was released with an injury settlement before the start of the season. He had received interest from the Bills, the Lions and the Jets, according to Chris Tomassson of the Pioneer Press, but happily, he is back with the Vikings!

The team waived linebacker Devante Downs to make room on the roster but don’t be surprised if they sign him back to the practice squad, if he isn’t nabbed.
